The Minority Report

Yager, McCray and I got alongComputer Technology together real well from the beginning. We actually called ourselves "The Minority Report" because we were the minorities in the house. It wasn't really a cultural thing. Yeah, we Wake up your lifewere the three brown people, but the clique also included Noke. He was a white guy, but he was a minority because he was from Australia. We also told Nick, who's from The Matrix RevolutionsCanada, that he should come kick it with us. But Nick does his own thing. He was pretty much by himself, though he got along with everybody.
Now, we got ourselves into a little bit of it is your lifetrouble the second night in the house by firing off air-horns in the middle of the night. We didn't want to mess with people the night of fights and definitely not before weigh-ins because you know how everybody gets edgy before weigh-ins. Words to Live by
The prank started on the very first day. After the preliminary fights, McCray and Yager ended up swiping the air-horns the officials use to signal the end the rounds. We had them the first night, but we decided not to use them until the second night.
I was actually sleeping right before they did it. We had the earlier practice the next morning, so I told them to get me up. They came and got me up, and we went and blew the air-horns on both sides of the house. I guess everybody got pretty pissed off. The good thing about it was nobody really knew that I was involved. Nobody saw me. They thought that it was just McCray and Yager, and they were all telling me what they were planning to do to McCray and Yager. So there I was collecting info like a double agent. It was pretty funny.
Even though everybody got pretty upset, I wasn't too worried. Minor stuff like that, there's no regrets. It was all in fun, and you have to expect stuff like that to happen. How else do you pass six-weeks' time with a bunch of other testosterone-filled dudes? Some guys took it better than others, but overall it was funny.Noke vs. McKinneyThe first fight was Noke vs. Clayton McKinney, and that was all the coaches' doing. I actually wanted to fight first. I went up to the coaches and said, "Hey, look, if possible, could I please fight first?"
I think I was the only guy on my team that finished their fight so fast in the first round, and I told them that I was uninjured. Some of the other guys had some tougher fights, and I thought they'd like some time to rest. I wanted to be the first one up, and I was willing to fight anybody the coaches wanted me to fight. They said they'd take it into consideration, but when they came back, they picked Noke vs. McKinney.
I didn't really understand the matchup. I'm not questioning them they're my coaches, and I look up to them. They know what they're doing, but in my opinion, I thought Noke was a tough guy, and I honestly would have put him against one of the tougher guys.
Nothing against McKinney, but he was not one of the tougher guys on the team. He was a bit injured, and he pretty much had no ground game. So I didn't understand why they put one of our strongest against one of their weakest, but that fight happened, and it was pretty one-sided.fter the fight, you saw the interactions on Team Ortiz, but we didn't know that was going on. I had no clue that Tito was getting on McKinney's back, but I think it's good that he was. Everybody needs to be pushed.
After Team Ortiz left, we went directly into a training session. We were feeling pretty good about the first win, and it definitely showed that maybe Chuck had done OK with his picks, after all.

Draft Day

The next morning, it was time to draft tok, it is yours nowhe teams. As I said before, my biggest fear was being the last pick. After I won my fight so quickly, I figured I'd probably get picked in the beginning because it was such a fastwhat is your dream, impressive fight. But then when they started picking, I started thinking that the coaches really don't know that much about me. On paper, there's not much there, and my fightfrom and go was so fast you couldn't really tell much about me. I ended up being picked in about the middle of the draft, and I was fine with that. I ended up being on Team Liddell, whichno reason was great. As soon as I got there and I saw Chuck's coaching staff, I immediately wanted to be on Liddell's team.
I wasn't sure who was going to be there as assistantsomething about skill coaches. Prior to going to the house, I was kind of thinking I would prefer to be on Tito Ortiz's team. My standup is the strongest part of my game, and that's Chuck's specialty. I figured Tito could help me on my weaknesses. But when we got there and met the coaches, I found out that Chuck had assembled this awesome coaching staff. At that point, I knew I wanted to be on Chuck's team, and luckily I they wanted me.
The only bummer was that McCray and Yager were picked by Team Ortiz. I was like, "Oh, man, now we might have to fight each other." But like I said before, you might have to fight everybody in the house, so it wasn't too much of a big deal.
Now last night, you guys got to see that Dana White had some concerns about our team. He and Tito both said they thought we had a weak team that was filled with small guys. You'd always expect the other team to talk trash, but we didn't know until about halfway through the filming that Dana thought we were such a bad team. I thought we had a great team.
We've got some short guys, but these guys have punching power, they have wrestling ability, and every single one of them is tough. But we didn't care that the other team was saying that. We knew we could just stay together and push each other hard.

FDA orders Baxter International to recall and destroy faulty hospital pumps

The Food and Drug Administration has ordered Baxter International Inc. to recall 200,000 of the company's Colleague brand pumps, escalating its scrutiny of infusion pumps used primarily in hospitals to deliver fluids to patients.
The FDA said the Deerfield, Ill.-based drug and device maker must "recall and destroy" all of its Colleague pumps, saying the action was based on "a long-standing failure" of the company to correct serious problems with them. Baxter will incur a special pretax charge of $400 million to $60 million in its first quarter to cover the cost of the recall.Receive breaking news alerts on your mobile device. Register »
The FDA said the Deerfield, Ill.-based drug and device maker must "recall and destroy" all of its Colleague pumps, saying the action was based on "a long-standing failure" of the company to correct serious problems with them. Baxter will incur a special pretax charge of $400 million to $600 million in its first quarter to cover the cost of the recall.
"The situation has languished far beyond what it should have," said Bob Parkinson, Baxter's chairman and chief executive, speaking Tuesday to shareholders attending the company's annual meeting in Deerfield.
Infusion pumps are devices most commonly found in hospitals, delivering fluids, medicine and nutritional liquids via a timing mechanism that controls the amount of medication a patient receives.
The FDA said infusion pumps, including Baxter's Colleague, ad caused "persistent safety problems."
In the last five years, the FDA has received more than 56,000 reports of adverse events that included serious injuries and more than 500 deaths. The agency did not say how many adverse events were linked to Baxter's Colleague pump.
On April 23, the FDA launched a new initiative to address infusion pump safety that required manufacturers to perform more tests before the devices are sold. The next week, Baxter rival Hospira of Lake Forest, Ill., said it was ceasing sales of its infusion pump Symbiq after customers complained that the alarm failed "at the end of infusion in certain conditions."
Parkinson said the kind of design improvements the FDA wanted were "close to impossible" for Baxter to accomplish "without fundamentally redesigning the pump."
By the end of last week, the FDA had rejected Baxter's corrective action plan for the Colleague pumps. The agency called the plan "unacceptable" and said it would have allowed the company to keep a device with "known safety concerns" on the market until 2013. The FDA said it was not satisfied with Baxter's timetable for fixing Colleague, a pump the company stopped selling in 2005 because of various design flaws, battery failures and related software issues.
"The FDA has been working with Baxter since 1999 to correct numerous device flaws," the agency said in a statement. "Since then, Colleague pumps have been the subject of several Class I recalls for battery swelling, inadvertent power off, service data errors and other issues."
Baxter has been operating under a 2006 consent decree with the FDA that allowed the agency to recall the pumps. Although Colleague pumps remain on the U.S. market, Baxter has not sold or distributed them for five years. In Colleague's last full year on the market, the device generated $170 million in sales.

The medical product giant said it worked with the FDA to minimize disruption to hospitals using the Colleague pumps. The company will be offering healthcare facilities the opportunity to exchange the pumps without charge.
Baxter will offer to exchange its Sigma Spectrum infusion pumps for the Colleague brand. Baxter spokeswoman Erin Gardiner described the Sigma Spectrum as a next-generation "smart pump."sports
